Montgomery County will receive a $3.2 million grant as part of the federal "stimulus package" to increase energy efficiency in county buildings by replacing air conditioning units and light fixtures. The county will recognize a 20% reduction in electricity costs at those facilities. What a strange twist of irony that the county that originated HCR 50 in the last legislative session, declaring Texas Sovereinty from the federal government, is now seen with its hat in hand. Far from defying the "opressive hand". The County as well as all other government entities should look to make these important investments in energy efficiency, even if the funds aren't coming from the federal or state level. As both the County and the City of Conroe have proven, these investments pay off in a short period of time and then yield both significant cost savings and a healthier environment.
